Everyday Chic: Birthday Bash

Another lovely weekend in NYC!! The weather was a little colder than I had hoped, but for the most part it was still quite lovely. All of the trees are in bloom here in Brooklyn and it is just stunning. This is my favorite time of year here (though, truthfully, Christmas time runs a close second - they put up 1950’s style decor in the streets  and what is not to love about that!!). If you stand at the end of our block and look down 5th Ave. it is totally in bloom, white flowers, pink flowers, purple flowers. It just looks ALIVE and makes me smile.

Saturday night we had two birthday parties to go to. The first was for our neighbor and was great. Everyone was super friendly, we met quite a few new people and it was for a good cause. Our neighbor happens to be very involved in the Anti-Violence Project - and they realized that 4 people either heavily involved in this project or on the board also had birthdays within a week. So, they decided to do an impromptu mini-fundraiser/birthday bash. And that my friends, is one of the reasons I love NY. Creative people…..who care! Awesome!!

Our second birthday party was a 30th bash for a good friend. This was a house party and it was loads of fun. Complete with great music, awesome people and dancing. I haven’t danced in ages! Oh, and the best part? The birthday boy is an amazing musician (Dan and he co-write some really cool electronic tunes and then he performs them - primarily in London but occasionally here in NY too) and they recently invested in a beautiful baby grand piano, which he played (and sang too). You can check out the Legion of Many (that is the performance’s name) here . It’s a really fun concept, he puts on a highly interactive show (you are totally going to want to check this out, he wears a full on costume!) and the music will make you want to groove big time!! So, basically, another reason I love NY.

Somehow we forgot to eat dinner on Saturday night. I guess we got excited by the idea of two parties in one night! We were planning on heading out for a bite after stopping by each of the birthday parties but in the end decided dancing was more fun! So, we stopped at our favorite place on the planet - The 5th Avenue Deli and ate a Pope of Fifth (a mix between a french dip and a cheesesteak = heavy, but awesome) and some cheese balls (they seemed like a good idea, though I’m pretty sure they were not). I should begin a week of veggies to make up for that meal for sure particularly considering Friday night we had home made soft pretzels and cheese sauce for dinner (which, we are aware is not actually dinner).

Inspiration: I’ve had that cobalt blue handbag for a few years and I love it but haven’t used it much in the past few months. It was screaming to be pulled out of the closet so that was my starting point. I have also been itching to wear this top. Isn’t she lovely? Such a great shape, great detailing and I love this color blue.

Outfit:

Top - Chris & Jamie via Kiwi
